Session Type: Symposium
Presenters in this symposium will share results of five projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education Jacob J. Javits Program, the only federal program dedicated to funding research on the education of gifted and talented students. Presenters will also discuss the challenges of conducting research in gifted education settings, including issues with data collection, buy-in from school personnel, misconceptions about the identification and education of gifted and talented students. Finally, presenters will share lessons learned as they approach the end of their projects. The session will culminate with a discussion among presenters and audience members on the importance of the Javits Program for gifted education research and future directions for the program and gifted education research.
