Formadores de Docentes: A Binational Teacher Education Project at the U.S./Mexico Border

Abstract

This symposium is comprised of papers that report on multiple phases of the Formadores de Docentes project that brought together teacher education scholars across four institutions in San Diego and Baja California to create a binational curriculum for teacher education on both sides of the border. With the goal of better serving the binational “students we share,” those attending both a U.S. and Mexican school at some point in their educational trajectories, the symposium highlights 1) the relationship-building among teacher education scholars across institutions, 2) the co-development of a theoretical framework and binational teacher profile, 3) the co-design of a binational pedagogy curriculum, and 4) the pilot of the curriculum in four universities at the border. This session will be presented in Spanish and English.
