Abstract

These five studies all relate to teacher candidate preparation. Various topics and findings in these studies include the following: 1) in a survey of teacher candidates, it was found that teacher feedback from their host teachers differed from university faculty with mean differences generally favoring university faculty feedback, 2) using data from four subscales (Ideal Classroom, Rewards of Teaching, Ideal Resident/Mentor, and Expectations for Mentorship) four key areas of difference were found between teacher candidates and clinical teachers (e.g., students as individuals or cultural beings), 3) students’ perceptions of their teacher candidates are discussed with trends exhibiting positive perceptions, 4) the relationship of substitute teaching on teacher candidate development is brought forth, and 5) the importance of “in the moment” video coaching by and for mentor teachers and for preservice teachers is discussed and supported.
