The graduate student experience can be a time of great stress and uncertainty for students trying to navigate the many expectations of a graduate program. Advising and mentoring relationships developed in graduate school can serve as a safety net or resource drain. The all-important question remains: how can we identify and sustain successful advisor or mentorship relationships while respectfully modifying those that aren’t working? This panel will address differences between advising and mentorship, provide key questions to ask of prospective advisors and mentors, and suggest strategies for finding mentors and advisors who can best support you. The panel will talk about their own approaches in teaching, research, and professional spaces as well as answer questions important to you.
