Principal Leadership Support as a Mediating Variable in Predicting Teacher Expertise and Competency

Tue, April 21, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Principal leadership support as a mediating variable in predicting teaching expertise and competency was investigated. Teaching expertise and competency is directly related to educational quality in the classroom. Research has shown that the development of teaching expertise needs both external support and self-directed practice. Principal leadership support is considered an important external factor related to teaching expertise and competency. Survey data on key variables were collected on 1,123 teachers in 41 schools. Is providing instruction guidance and monitoring, providing instruction conditions, and professional agency mediated by leadership support in predicting teaching expertise and competency? Findings from separate path models supported principal’s leadership support as a mediating variable.
