On Sentience and Solidarity: Disability, Nonhuman Animals, and Inclusive Education

Fri, April 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Through an analysis of disability studies scholarship, animal rights literature, as well as relevant theoretical and philosophical literature, this paper makes the case that deeply held conceptions about the human/animal divide are primary contributors to disability discrimination. In the process, it provides an analysis of animal rights as a crucial component of intersectionality research with important implications for inclusive education.
