Educating About and Through Research: The Role of Research in Future Teachers' Classroom Practices

Mon, April 20, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This paper presents the evaluation of a research-training module in the domain of French oral skill-didactics, which aims to train student teachers about and through research. More in particular, this paper focuses on bridging the research-practice gap within initial teacher education. Student teachers are often not expected to develop research competencies and are rarely confronted with research during initial teacher training. The fact that most teacher educators are not researchers further contributes to this theory-practice divide. The ambition of this paper is twofold: we will describe the set-up of a research-training module in order to demonstrate how future teachers can be trained to use research; and we will evaluate the impact of this module on future teachers’ research competencies.
