This research paper explores the life and career of award-winning young adult (YA) literature author and educator, Guadalupe Garcia McCall. Similar to many Black, Latina, Indigenous, and Asian women writers for youth, McCall has been vocal about her interest in using her literary works as educational resources in the lives of adolescents as they come of age. In this paper, we explore the educative life of McCall and her literary contributions to the YA literature canon, which stem directly from her cultural and pedagogical stance and role of teacher as writer.
