Daran, a Yazidi-American teacher, makes three overlapping investments in his teacher identity: being the 'other,' not being the 'other,' and being like his immigrant and refugee students. Each of these investments varies in strength, and through a three-level story analysis Daran's identity resources are explored. This study pushes teacher identity research forward by examining how Daran orders and stacks in identity investments and how those investments endure constraints and contradictions.
