China's Capital Gain in Hosting International Students

Fri, April 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

China’s global presence has become a significant subject. However, little attention has been directed to China as an increasingly prevalent destination for international students. Using Bourdieu’s capital theories, this study’s goal is to fill the gap in the literature by providing a more nuanced understanding of China’s capital pursuit as a leading host country for international students. Incorporating findings from national policy analysis and interviews with professional and academic staff in selected Chinese universities, this article examines the capital gains that the Chinese government and universities crave.
