Recent literature has highlighted the more significant needs and vulnerabilities of care experienced young people (CEYP). Concerns abound regarding the systemic underachievement of this group and efforts have been directed at narrowing the ‘outcomes gap’ by promoting involvement in activities that support positive development. It has been argued that sport/physical activity (PA) can play an important role here, but little is known about the lived experiences of CEYP in this respect. Drawing on data from a recent English study, this paper highlights perceived benefits and challenges related to sport/PA participation for CEYP. In particular, it identifies a lack of clarity with regard to whose responsibility it is to provide sport/PA opportunities and calls for more collaborative action between key stakeholders.
