Developing More Inclusive Schools for Pupils With Special Educational Needs: Key Messages for School Administrators

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This paper provides an outline of a unique local area project of school improvement for inclusion of pupils with Special educational needs and disabilities in general classrooms. It explores the qualities and systems of leadership and management most likely to result in high-quality provision through analysis of evaluation data for 22 schools in one city in England. The findings show that leadership cultures that promote SEND and inclusion as everyone's business are essential as are systems enabling this collective to enact its responsibilities.
