It Takes a Village: University-District Partnerships That Support Students With Interrupted Formal Education

Sat, April 18, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This three-year study reflects a partnership among five public schools, three districts, state policy makers, and a university team comprised of curriculum designers, researchers, and coaches. The partnership focused on Students with Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE), with the aim of improving students’ reading, writing, academic and social skills. Researchers found that the strategic planning among stakeholders impacted classroom culture and instruction for SIFE and increased collaboration. During a time in which public dialogue and policy negatively affect our immigrant communities, the study shows evidence that partnerships among educational professionals can improve school practices resulting in improved student socioemotional and academic growth.
