EdTPA (teacher performance assessment) is a national portfolio assessment made up of three tasks that gauge planning (task 1), teaching (task 2), and assessing student learning (task 3). We use the instrument as a tool to assess our candidates’ pedagogical skills. We used fall 2017 and spring 2018 edTPA scores of candidates to identify weak areas among the individual rubrics. Using this data, we designed and implemented activities in fall 2018. Scores of candidates’ who completed student teaching in spring 2019 were compared to the initial data. This practice relates to CAEP Standard 5.3: “provider regularly and systematically assesses performance against its goals… and uses results to improve program elements and processes” (Rivadeneyra & Monaco, 2018, slide, 28).
