Although virtual mentoring and coaching (VMC) is quickly gaining popularity in educational leadership field, the availability of evidenced-based research is limited. The purpose of the study is to reveal the VMC process and to identify the key factors that characterize effective VMC practices for principal preparation program. The analysis focused on understanding how coaches conducted leadership coaching and mentoring in the context of online principal preparation program, and the insights they developed with principal candidates that might contribute to candidates' professional grow in leadership. The preliminary findings indicated that VMC was a vital component of participants’ leadership development, and it was a continual process of leadership capacity building.
