Teachers from regions extending across the continent have engaged in increased numbers of militant strikes, job action and protest over the past several years. Such resistance involves complex decisions surrounding tactics, organizational strategy, political education, and how to organize across diverse racial and cultural identities. This presentation provides an overview of current teacher-led militancy efforts in Canada and the United States and situates individual examples of militancy within a broader framework for understanding how and why teachers are currently rising up.
