Federal, state, and local policies have increasingly drawn attention to school discipline practices. While there is a growing body of literature that documents the effects of discipline policy, relatively little is known about the implementation process of discipline reforms. There is reason to believe that discipline policy implementation may face unique challenges, especially given the racialized implications of discipline practices. We bring together emerging scholars who examine discipline policy implementation across a variety of policies and contexts. Authors draw on varied methodologies and theoretical approaches to investigate these issues. Together, these papers showcase the challenges and opportunities in the discipline implementation process and policy design.
