Critical Thinking Test Validity in International Contexts: Evaluating the Educational Testing Service HEIghten Test for Irish Use

Sun, April 19, 8:15 to 10:15am, Virtual Room

Abstract

Validation research is essential for establishing the appropriateness of inferences drawn from tests when they are used in new contexts. This study presents preliminary validity evidence to support the use of the ETS HEIghten Critical Thinking Test with Irish postsecondary students. Using test responses from Irish university students, this study replicates the initial validity evidence provided by ETS when the test was being piloted in its original United States context. An examination of measurement invariance across Irish and United States samples is also presented. Results suggest that the HEIghten Critical Thinking Test is appropriate for use with Irish students.
