Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

In this paper we researched the evolution of a counseling program, that transitioned from a traditional in-person model to an asynchronous online program, with an integrated field experience component. The process and strategies used for the program course redesign are reviewed. The primary goal of the redesign effort was to sustain efficient student instructor engagement in an online setting, while training aspiring counselors for the complex 21st century educational settings. The paper included a brief literature review of best practices, rubrics utilized, progress monitoring, and program assessment. Additionally, descriptive data is included that illustrates the perspectives of faculty and students in regards to teaching effectiveness, student engagement, and satisfaction in a rigorous asynchronous, counseling program.
