In this paper, we present our efforts to integrate covariational reasoning in the learning of science. The findings from a whole-class design experiment with sixth-graders illustrate that students developed sophisticated forms of covariational reasoning about gravity that can be used to initiate a conversation about the nature of integrated STEM reasoning and the design principles that provided students with a platform to develop these forms of reasoning.
