Innovation Collaborative: A Nationwide Professional Development Project for Arts Integration

Abstract

Over the last five years, the Innovation Collaborative has investigated effective practices in Arts Integration in K-12 classrooms. The teachers who participated in professional development on arts integration overall reported growth in their teaching self-efficacy. They reported increased confidence in their ability to use creativity in their own practice, integrating disciplinary processing skills, and teaching problem solving skills. They gained confidence in integrating arts and science content, managing classrooms, and assessment. The Elementary students who participated in integrated lessons experienced growth in their Understanding of Creative Thinking. The Secondary students experienced growth in their Attitudes about Integration and Understanding of Creative Thinking. Additionally, students who participated in the lessons had significantly more positive Attitudes about Integration and Attitudes about School.
