This paper explores how the opportunity for youth to articulate their desires is enhanced through their stop-motion film projects via a school-community partnership during a week-long media arts residency. The research addresses how collaborations between schools and communities facilitate the illumination of youth agency by: (1) leveraging the differing expertise of school teachers and museum teaching artists and (2) adapting preconceived curriculum to reflect students’ desires. Findings advance the ways that multiple stakeholders can work together to engage youth interests and magnify their agency.
