Nongovernmental Organization Involvement in the Implementation of Education Policy in Israel: The Perceptions of Nongovernmental Organization Executives

Abstract

NGOs have been involved in academic programs in many Western countries, actively participating and reshaping policy implementation. This study explores the perceptions of NGO executives regarding their involvement in the implementation of education policy in Israel. We have applied a qualitative research method, conducting in-depth interviews with 10 senior NGO executives. Inductive data analysis revealed three major themes: (a) A cross-sector partnership that utilizes existing potential for collaboration (b) Reconsideration of how responsibility for education may be shared (c) Matching funds give a voice to deprived populations and improve students' academic and social achievements. This study provides theoretical and practical implications of NGO involvement in shaping and implementing education policies in this era of ever-changing economic and social reality.
