Using Flipgrid to Articulate Research Methods and Designs: Does Video Improve Understanding?

Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The following exploratory qualitative research study examines how or in what ways using self-recorded videos could assist doctoral students with their understanding of research methods and research designs such as arts-based research, community participatory action research, qualitative research, quantitative research, and mixed methods research. Flipgrid, a technology tool was used to facilitate and promote learning through active approaches that helped students understand terminology related to research skills. Preliminary results indicate well designed classroom activities that incorporate technology tools have the capability to enhance student learning beyond the classroom walls. The use of Flipgrid, as an arts-integration tool, can inspire students and educators to engage in unique forms of qualitative inquiries that promote deeper cultural understanding in school communities.
