As Lived and Told: Using Journey Mapping for Program Improvement in Teacher Education

Abstract

There is a lacuna in existing literature regarding representations of teacher candidates’ journeys throughout their program of study and modes of practice. That is, by focusing on isolated or bounded dimensions of experiences, we may be missing insights that manifest only when seeking to understand the overarching journey of a teacher candidate throughout a teacher preparation program. To address this gap in literature and to offer a tool teacher education programs can use to work towards improving the experience of teacher candidates in their programs, this study draws from the fields of Business and Marketing to demonstrate the potential of journey mapping as a method of qualitative research and mechanism of program improvement in teacher education.
