This project describes a systematic review of research on adaptive learning through a strategic search process for published research in order to synthesize findings about the topic. After a systematic review search process, 43 articles on adaptive learning were analyzed for a number of questions including journals, countries, settings, content, research designs and adaptive learning technologies used. Independent and dependent variables along with data collection methods were also examined. This study has implications for adaptive learning designers and also for future researchers on the gaps in adaptive learning research. Future studies might focus on the increasing availability and capacities of adaptive learning as a learning technology to assist individual learning and personalized growth.
