Research-Practice Partnerships: Stakeholder Mapping as a Tool for Maximizing Co-Creation

Abstract

Practitioners and university researchers engage in research-practice partnerships to conceptualize, design, enact, and share research related to problems of practice in the field. Whilst they provide opportunities to partner with and benefit multiple stakeholders, the groups can be made up of many individuals whose goals and behaviors may, at times, seem to conflict. The complexity of such an environment requires the need for further exploration of the nature of multiple stakeholder relationships within research-practice partnerships. This study of eleven projects illustrates how teams work in partnership to conduct research in schools and work as a cohort. Results include a framework for evaluating stakeholder roles and an approach for evaluating the input, context, processes and objectives of multiple stakeholder groups.
