Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Recent research on learning and development has added much to our understanding of the complex and all-encompassing nature of learning. This new research, and concurrent calls for schools to be updated to provide for 21st century learning, provide an opportunity to revisit Dewey’s conception of the “educative experience”. Using a pragmatic means-ends analysis derived from that conception, this paper makes the case that the time is right to take consider the “educative experience” as a goal and a guide for 21st century educators who seek to teach in ways aligned with the holistic understanding of learning laid out by research.
