Democracy as the Aim of Education: Critical Issues of Leadership, Voice, Equity, and Schooling

Abstract

Multi-generational, diverse, and highly respected scholars will present on the opportunities, research, and activism needed post-pandemic for education leaders--- of all roles and responsibilities---to reframe K-12 education in accord with public purpose. This involves the obligation to educate students in engaging and meaningful ways in order for them to participate as valued members of a wiser, just, and inclusive democratic society. The overall title ,Democracy as the Aim of Education, holds the varied papers together. Papers include democratizing schools inside out , furthering professional development schools, learning from teachers of the Civil Rights Era , reversing neglect of rural students of color, and equity and political economy of school finance. The discussants will add expertise in leadership, mentoring, and community context.
