Session Type: Symposium
Student engagement is an important contributor to learning (Authors, 2020; Fredricks et al., 2004). However, engagement varies by context, and experiences can manifest very differently for students from diverse backgrounds. In this symposia, we investigate and discuss current findings on engagement across three distinct educational contexts (division-based, out-of-school, and science classrooms). Additionally, we engage in design-thinking activities to explore the implications of this work in newly developed educational contexts such as online learning, and brainstorm how to better support students’ engagement experiences designed to promote adaptive student outcomes. This work is critical in considering how we can best design equitable learning environments that engage our increasingly diverse student population.
