Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will explore the idea of a common responsibility for professional ethics content in pre-service teacher education. Survey work revealed that a diversity of courses, topics, and values are associated with teaching and learning about ethics in initial teacher education. This session will elaborate upon ethical issues in teachers’ work and how to collectively increase educational responsibility in teacher education. This requires creating a more cohesive discourse around professional ethics in teaching and improving the quality of ethics education that teacher candidates receive. Through the sharing of current research and substantive exchange, the symposium aims to initiate an awareness of the need for greater care about ethics, equity and justice in our society, in educational institutions and educators’ ethical development.
