Session Type: Symposium
What began as a one-day act of solidarity in Seattle, grew into the National Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action. In this symposium, we share our stories as participants igniting an uprising for educational justice. Contributor's from an edited book that documents the history of the Black Lives Matter at School movement will share the pedagogical, curricular, and practical implications from their commitment to affirm Black lives in schools. We will provide a historical overview of this movement, examine curriculum as resistance and liberation, explore the Black Lives Matter at School pedagogy, and analyze the challenges and possibilities for organizing this movement in higher education.
