Session Summary

International Student Experiences During COVID-19

Mon, April 12, 4:30 to 6:00pm EDT (4:30 to 6:00pm EDT), AERA Committees, Graduate Student Council Paper and Symposium Sessions 2

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

The United States is the top destination for international students studying abroad. International students enrich educational spaces by bringing multicultural perspectives and make large economic contributions. In the recent past and particularly during COVID, a string of policies were implemented (and some retracted) that led to a hostile environment for students from foreign countries. As a result international students are experiencing mounting prejudice. This panel will talk about the range of experiences and pressures induced by the pandemic on the diverse international student population in US colleges and universities and its larger impact on internationalization of higher education.
