Strategies for Promoting Research Use Learned in EdD Programs

Thu, April 8, 4:00 to 5:00pm EDT (4:00 to 5:00pm EDT), Division A, Division A - Section 5 Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

Building on an earlier paper that showed that certain features of EdD programs enhance their graduates use of evidence, this paper uses qualitative data from a mixed methods study of four EdD programs. Interviews and observations provide concrete instances of the strategies used. The strategies fall in the areas of teaching research and research application skills as well as building the social bonding among students and between students and faculty that facilitate learning. What especially distinguishes these programs is their attention to application. Our intention is to provide useful information to programs that wish to adopt such strategies for their own use.
