Preliminary Scoping Review of the Application of Mixed Methods in Inclusive Education Research

Mon, April 12, 2:50 to 4:20pm EDT (2:50 to 4:20pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Mixed Methods Research Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

There is growing interest in the use of mixed methods research in understanding and supporting the implementation of inclusive education policies and practices around the world. The aim of this scoping review is to identify the ways in which mixed methods have been applied in inclusive education. More specifically, we apply Harrison et al. (2020) Rigorous Mixed Methods Framework and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines to understand mixed methods rigour in the field. Based on a review of 66 articles results suggest that researchers may not be capitalizing on opportunities for meaningful integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches.
