This paper will explore: (a) the influence of criminal justice contact on race-based traumatic stress symptoms, beyond arrest, incarceration, and conviction among Black men; (b) the impact of criminal justice contact on Black men who view the contact as racially motivated, specifically on race-based traumatic stress symptoms; (c) coping strategies for Black men whose mental health has been impacted as a result of criminal justice contact they view as racially motivated; and (d) observing characteristics of the participants that may moderate the relationship between racially motivated law enforcement contact, mental health, and coping skills.
