Drawing on data from the U.S. and specifically the state of Georgia related to postsecondary degrees and credentials, and career and economic outcomes, the authors examine the associations between postsecondary educational attainment on workforce development. Findings from the study offer a framework to guide future policy conversations and decision-making opportunities across the U.S. The paper presents an empirically-based, economic development argument in favor of expanded need-based programs that drive postsecondary access. The topics of economic growth, skills gaps, and expanding postsecondary access is particularly timely in the economic aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
