The aim of the study is to understand the role of mentors in Spain and India, by analyzing how mentors in both contexts conceive their work in teacher education. An internationally validated instrument, Mentoring Profile Inventory (MPI), was given to 30 Spanish and 30 Indian mentors, and an analysis was undertaken to understand what motivates and challenges practicum mentors within these two countries. Understanding motivators and challenges of mentors can form the basis to reflect upon the essential components of teacher preparation in both contexts. The study provides insight for better understanding of performance and attitudes within and across contexts and in this case, a European and an Asian country – using a common metric, the MPI.
