This study investigated how student interactions with course materials changed after a forced online transition in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Students used digital resources such as the digital textbook the same regardless of instruction format. Students did not replace face to face contact time with time spent on static resources. Student grades increased slightly, but significantly with online instruction suggesting that students were able to self-regulate their learning despite the sudden transition in course format. Students that struggled most in face to face learning improved the most when transitioning to online instruction.
