Examining the Leadership Practices of Teacher Leaders for Equity in Secondary Science Instruction

Abstract

This study examines teacher leaders’ enactment of leadership practices for equity at the secondary level. Data for this qualitative study included semi-structured interviews supplemented by field observations and leadership artifacts. The findings highlight common equitable leadership practices among teacher leaders as well as tension in teacher leadership for equity. This study contributes to the field by broadening our theoretical understanding of teacher leaders’ advocacy for educational equity in a content area.
