This ethnographic case study employed the Culture Based Model (CBM) in facilitating content development and instruction delivery using mobile applications for Hispanic/Latinx English Learners (ELs) through the lens of funds of identity. Home-visits and in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with six Hispanic/Latinx ELs’ families in a rural town in the Midwest over three months. The explored funds-of-identity sources were coded into five categories: social, institutional, geographical, cultural, and practical funds of identity. Emphasizing the elements of cultural resources, cultural communication, and cultural artefacts within CBM, a prototype of mobile-assisted funds-of-identity-featured writing instructional framework was developed to augment opportunities for enhancing the ELs’ literacy skills.
