Drinking From a Fire Hose: Lessons Learned About Online Teaching in the Wake of COVID-19

Sun, April 11, 10:40am to 12:10pm EDT (10:40am to 12:10pm EDT), Division J, Division J - Section 4 Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

During 2020’s COVID-19 pandemic, many instructors of in-classroom courses suddenly had to shift their courses online. With very little preparation, instructors had to engage and support students in unprecedented ways and help them learn under difficult conditions. Influenced by the effectiveness of our previous inquiry projects in which we crowdsourced educators’ stories about effective learning and teaching experiences, we are collecting the lessons educators have learned about teaching online as they pivoted to a mediated learning format. During this roundtable session we will describe the themes that have emerged from the lessons shared and how they align with the Community of Inquiry model, invite participants to contribute their own lessons, and share teaching recommendations.
