Sparse research has investigated how faculty are influenced and inspired to produce public scholarship, or, scholarship for audiences beyond academia. This study interviewed 14 tenured faculty members to explore these motivations. Findings suggest public scholarship is intimately tied to one’s identity, which also influences one’s research agenda. Implications for faculty socialization is addressed.
