Abstract

The Nature of Engineering (NOE) comprises the underlying epistemological beliefs about engineering. In order to advance the engineering literacy of students and teachers, it is necessary to provide them with a better understanding of NOE. Engineering has been a major objective of STEM education since the release of NGSS. There has been recent research examining related NOE aspects for K-12 students, in the hope of generating a more sophisticated understanding of NOE among youth. Currently, assessing NOE understanding is a challenge, due to the lack of reliable instruments. In order for pre-college engineering instruction to be successful, it is necessary to develop a NOE instrument. Throughout this paper, we have mainly focused on establishing the validity of the VNOE questionnaire.
