Abstract

With the rise in anti-Asian hate across the country, highlighting the racialized experiences of Asian Americans is more important than ever. This study sought to understand the unique and varied ways that Asian American students, faculty, and staff experience racial microaggressions and are coping with the COVID-19 pandemic at a large, public, Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving university in southeast Texas. Key findings include the damaging effects of the model minority myth, gendered differences in racialization among Asian Americans, and an increase in fear of racialized threats and violence due to Trump’s racist rhetoric.
