Abstract

In this study, we developed the Online-learning REadiness Scale (ORES) to measure the online learners’ psychological readiness. Through cluster analysis, we identified two types of online learner profiles based on the ORES: the Online Learning Ready (OLR) Learners and the Online Learning Not-Ready (OLNR) Learners. The OLR Learners reported lower anxiety and boredom and higher satisfaction than the OLNR Learners.
Furthermore, we proposed a three-path mediation model to examine how students’ online learning readiness predicted their emotions and performance related to online learning. Results indicate that OLR Learners with higher online learning readiness reported lower levels of anxiety and boredom and higher satisfaction. Additionally, only satisfaction, the positive factor, further predicted learners’ academic expectations and expected final grade.
