Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals’ routines, responsibilities, and face-to-face interactions with others altered to practice social distancing and safe social behaviors. In this study, we examined children’s and caregivers' daily routines and coping behaviors in the U.S. during the global pandemic through caregiver and child interviews and survey responses. Participants included ten caregivers and their PK-3 grade children. Both children’s and caregivers’ routines shifted, and caregivers had increased responsibilities and home challenges. Caregivers discussed the pandemic with their children and explained the situation and precautions in an age-appropriate way. Children reported missing their schools, friends, and teachers due to the lack of face-to-face interactions. Findings for this study can guide efforts to enhance school-family-community partnerships to support learners and caregivers.
