Abstract

Numeracy includes the plethora of observed numerate social practices integrated with the cultural, social, personal, emotional, and power relations. Based on the PIAAC results, we can state that large groups of the population are in a situation of vulnerability, for whom the low level of numeracy means being unprotected and being the target of abusive behaviors. This paper discusses what is understood by numeracy nowadays and the challenges that have been identified by the research that needs to be addressed shortly to guarantee the inclusion of adults, especially those from the most vulnerable groups, to participate in our society fully.
