National Study of 21st Century Skills Attainment in Out-of-School STEM Apprenticeship Programs

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of extended duration (four weeks or more) high school through undergraduate STEM programs on participant progress toward mastering 21st Century Skills. Multiple types of out-of-school-time (OST) programs within a national STEM program (NSP) are investigated (enrichment and apprenticeship programs) within various cite types (university-based and other research laboratories). This study examined the impact of program participation on growth of student 21st Century Skills over time. Findings revealed that participation had a significant positive impact on student attainment of 21st Century Skills.
