The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges, tasking teachers with meeting the social-emotional, academic and logistical needs of students in the midst of an ever-changing landscape. Encountering these challenges real time and firsthand as an English teacher at a public high school in the Northeast U.S., I audio-recorded the collaborative dialogue between myself and another 11th grade Advanced Placement (AP) English Language and Composition teacher at my school as we navigated the tensions that resulted from adapting curriculum and instruction during these extraordinary circumstances. This paper examines the role that the pandemic playex in deeply complexifying the already intricate decision-making processes that teachers undergo on a daily basis.
